I started feeling sick yesterday. Today I have a fever of 102, a really sore throat...and my bodies aching like crazy. So obviously I probably have the FLU. But I have RSD...so I'm always real ache...and I am extremly oversenstive. My legs are so sore....I can barely walk today. I can barely sleep cuz the pains so bad, and even just the clothes touching me hurts. I already took two advils, so I dont know what to do to relieve the constant pain. Please anyone with RSD or fibromyalgia(cuz I have both)...I need some pain reducing techniques. Also any home made remedies for my congestion and headache would be nice. Please help I'm in so much pain.

Yes, I know that moving is important, I've had RSD a while. But when you have a fever and you feel like crap, and you add that to the normal pain...it makes it hard. I'm trying to stay moving...its really hard when your legs dont seem to want to cooperate though.

If you can go to the doctor and you are not allergic to codeine, maybe the doctor could prescribe some cough medicine with codeine that would help with both the pain and the congestion. If you do get codeine, take it with a big meal so you won't get a stomachace. Many doctors don't prescribe it because it can be addictive. But with you having the flu and the rsd at once, you really need something for pain at least while you have the flu. Don't worry about moving around right now because of the rsd. You have the flu and you need to rest. I hope there is someone around the house to take you to the doctor. If you are not going to the doctor, drink hot regular lipton tea to kill off the germs in your throat. Eat some chicken soup. Someone said to eat garlic, but too much of that can make you sick at your stomach, especially with the sinus drainage. Nose spray helps. If you don't want the kind with decongestant, use the saline kind These home remedies only help the congestion for a short time. To get sleep, you'll need something stronger. You can try some NyQuil P.M.--the kind you have to ask the pharmacist for or extra strength tylenol P.M. You can't get the effective stuff just from the shelf because it has the same kind of stuff Sudafed has. These may help you sleep. Listen to some soothing music or watch a favorite movie. When I 'm sick I like watching Lord of the Rings. "Finding Neverland" is a good movie for when you are sick. It's about Barrie who wrote Peter Pan for a sick person, and when I watch it, I feel like someone understands what it's like to be sick. I also like Unbreakable because the actor's quiet voices are soothing even though the story isn't soothing. Just listen to their voices.

I have FM in addition to other types of arthritis. I also have Type II diabetes. See a doctor or go to an ER about your current problems, particularly with your fever that high. Take care of the current bigger problem first. Anong other things, FM has a tendency to prolong any infections.

Once you have recovered from this, there are things that you can do to help with your FM. This is just help, though, nothing permanent. It does start with exercise on a regular basis. Try to stretch every day and try to walk every day. On top of that, and best of all, find an arthritis aquafit program and join it. Go on a regular basis. It's so very, very helpful, and because you're in the water, it's simply easier to do. Make sure it's an arthritis class though, as these emphasize flexibility with some cardio, while even the beginner's level of other programs emphasize cardio and resistance training. Been there, done that, and dropped it. I kept up with the arthritis program, though, and I'm much better off for having done so.

You need to find a way to relax. No one else can find this for you, but you may be helped by learning to meditate. It doesn't work for everyone, but it's just another relaxation technique, If it doesn't work for you, keep trying other methods. Something will help you.

The Arthritis Society of Canada runs something called the Arthritis Self Management Program. It's a great program, short term and you self refer. If you're not in Canada, contact your local arthritis society, foundation, organization or whatever and ask about similar programs.

Hey Honey, I have Fibromyalgia and I was in the same situation a few days ago. Are you taking any Medication for the RSD Or Fibromyalgia? I take Lexapro. I refuse to take antidepressants for years and my Doctor finally convinced me that I have to do something. I am on a low dose and when I got sick I called my PHARMACIST (doctors don't know as much about dosing as they claim to) and asked if I can double my Lexapro. She said it was okay, so I would call the pharmacist and ask if upping your medication is safe. I am not a Doctor and don't know what you are taking, so call the pharmacist! Also, I noticed that it was best to stay in bed. If you can get to a Dr. I would and ask for some codeine. I have a surplus for when I get really bad. Codeine helps me as well. Everyone is different, but I hope I can help you. I know how you feel! I'm sorry! Get to feeling better!

I am sorry that you are not feeling well. Hope you get well soon.

Don't know much about RSD, but for flu there is an indian medication that you may be able to pick up at an Indian grocery shop in your town. Don't know how realistic it is for you, but I thought I'd share anyways. It's called JOHAR JOSHANDA and is essentially an herbal powder that needs to be disolved in water and drinking it should make your flu symptoms a lot better. I always find it better than the Western medication.

My mother has fibroidmyalgia so I feel for you. When she becomes ill with the flu she takes to bed. When the pain is too much she will get into a hot tub with lavender scent and uses a machine with jets to cause action like a hot tub. The hot water helps alleviate the pain, the lavender scent soothes her senses and the jets really help the immobility and pain she has. When her pain is unbearable she has Tylenol 3 that she takes but in lue of it she will have one stiff drink in her coffee. Just enough to break the cycle of pain a little to allow her to sleep.

Good Luck! :)

If you can stand it, a warm bath will help with both the aches and the congestion. Most doctors will tell you to take 800mg of advil when you have that much pain. Call a nurse hotline and check to see if you can.

orange peel works for nasal congestion. Cut about 2" strip and bend the orange side out. Sniff in the orange oils.
Make a tea from ginger 1/4 lemon wedge and teaspoon of honey in boiled water and let steeped for about 3 minutes or so.
Find a site with accupressure points, Hear you will find places you can simply press to releave a headache.

you should already know this if you've got RSD- you need to move that leg, even though it hurts. RSD is caused by immobility of the affected extremity, and it a vicious cycle- the more it hurts, the less you want to move it. but that's exactly what you need to do.

I'm a nurse. You need to contact an on call doctor for some medication to make you comfortable. I'm so sorry you are suffering. Maybe see a doctor ER to get some relief, don't allow yourself to suffer any longer. You deserve to get the best care you can.

Headache

My wife puts Vicks Vapor Rub on her eyelids and temples as well as under her nose for a severe headache
FIBROMYALGIA:

Take 4 Tbsp. extra virgin organic coconut oil daily. The pain should go away within a few days.

COLD AND FLU COMBINATION:

Mix together 3 parts Echinacea, 3 parts Goldenseal, 2 parts Pau D'Arco, 2 parts Peppermint, 2 parts Mullein, and 1 part minced Gingerroot. Place 2 Tbsp. of this mixture in a clean jar that can be completely covered with boiling water. Pour 6 oz. boiling water over the herbs mixture and cap the jar. Steep for 10 minutes. Strain off the herbs. Drink 1 cup three times a day. Inhale the tea to relieve sinus congestion.

COLDS OR FLU:

Take up to five odorless garlic capsules during a 24 hour period to get rid of a cold. Garlic is called, "the poor man's penicillin."

If you have a cold and can handle raw garlic, place a clove of garlic between your tongue and cheek. Bite it every now and then to release some garlic juice. The raw garlic will help thin the mucus produced by the cold, as well as killing the germs causing it.

Take 2000 mg. Vitamin C every hour until you get diarrhea, then reduce to 1000 mg. every hour until the cold symptoms have gone, which should be within 24 hours.

Drink a cup of warm chicken broth as often as needed to cure a cold fast. There are enzymes in chicken broth that really help cure a cold.

Suck on zinc lozenges to get rid of a cold or flu faster. Be careful not to ingest more than 115 mg. zinc in a 24 hour period or it could become toxic to the body.

When you drink anything liquid while you have a cold or the flu, make sure it is as hot as you can stand to drink it. This works in killing the bacteria and viruses causing you to be sick. Merely drinking something warm will not kill them. It must be as hot as you can stand to drink to work properly. Drink it down with as little hesitation as possible. Drink it as often as you can for 18 hours. You do not have to eat food as your body needs its energy to fight off the germs that are reinfecting you right now. If you do this during those first 18 hours, you can get rid of the cold or flu. In between drinking the piping hot liquids such as teas, hot lemonade, juices, soups, decaf coffee, broths, etc. you can drink cool water by the pint, and suck on zinc lozenges.

Take two aspirin and drink a cup of hot lemonade. Go to bed and cover up with warm blankets. You will sweat out the cold. That is all Thera-Flu is, and this is a lot cheaper.

In the early stages of a cold or the flu, place a washed, whole unpeeled grapefruit, cut into several pieces, into a pot and cover with water. Heat to a boil. Remove from heat. Add one Tablespoon honey. Drink the whole mixture like a hot tea.

Remember no germs can live in pure lemon juice or in pure honey. Any time you need germ fighters, use honey and lemon juice as part of the mixture.

Take 2 Olive Leaf capsules at the first sign of a cold. To boost your body's immune system, use liquid olive leaf extract, as its antiviral qualities can help treat cold and flu viruses.

Remember you can re-infect yourself and others when you have a cold or the flu. Practice good hygiene. If you feel like taking a bath or shower, do so to wash off the poisons coming out of your pores and skin. Wash your hands often with soap and warm water to kill germs. Use Purell hand sanitizer after that on your hands to kill germs still there. Keep Lysol Spray around to spray the area where coughing and sneezing occurs. Keep plenty of antiviral tissues on hand, and line your garbage can with a thick plastic liner or two. If you have to have something to throw up in, then it won't be so hard to clean up while you are sick.

Echinacea is a good herb to take to boost one's immune system, but do not take it longer than six months.

Drink 4 cups hot, green tea daily to cure a cold and boost your immune system to fight germs off easier in the first place.
