you can take the uptown 1,2, or 3 train to Times Square-42nd street. Sit in the first 3 carts. Then when you get off @ Times Square, go and take the shuttle train (which is marked S) and take it over to Grand Central 42nd St. When you get off, head in the direction of the 4,5,6, and 7 train (yes you have to walk down that path) and head to the up town side, and take either the 4 or 5 (express) train to 86th st (which is 2 stops on the express train), (6 train its 5 stops) and then walk up to 5th ave, and 82nd st, and you are there.

Take the uptown (northbound) "C" train from Penn Station (Blue Line on the subway map) to 86th Street. Once at 86th Street, transfer at street level, for the M86 bus. Take the M86 bus going eastbound from Central Park West and 86th Street to 84th Street and 5 Avenue. The museum is a short walk from the bus stop. I hope this information is very helpful. Good luck Native New Yorker

Take a taxi. It's fun! If not, the subway @ Penn station has maps, and if you have the address, 5th ave and 82nd St. then you are fine.
Make sure to check out the impressionists, specifically Van Gogh, I can not explain the way his work made me feel, but it made my heart pound...
