Shallots are a small bulb milder than garlic or onion but used a lot like both in cooking.

I think you may mean Shallot.

Shallots are a member of both the garlic and onion family...with papery brown skin and purple tinged white flesh with a flavor resembling a cross between a small onion and garlic. They divide into cloves just like garlic and not into layers like onions do.

Although shallots are closely associated with the onion family...i would say that fit closer to the garlic family. Shallots divide in cloves as mention already, they do not have the same strong taste as onions and they lack the sulphuric aroma and irritating fumes that the typical onions have.

Shallots are tiny little purple onions with an elongated bulb The outer skin is golden brown. Their flavour is very delicate and perfumes gourmet cuisine or on a fried sirloin steak with shallots butter sauce or also in vinaigrette for green salad. They are used in indian food in India as they originally come from India. All onions are good for keeping the blood healthy. Garlic too.

Well, they're shallots. They're a bulb that resembles a small onion, but has a wonderful onion/garlic flavor. Here's a link with a photo.

They are almost like a cross between onions and garlic. they are generally small and with a very nice taste when cooked into a sauce. I don't like to eat them by themselves, like a green onion.

Shallots are shallots. They are of the onion family. I have substituted half onion and half garlic for some recipes.
