yes, you need to get it trimed. if you don't and your ends are spliting bad your hair will break at the ends and it will take longer to grow. Hair grows an average of 6 inches per year so it will still take a while. Get some pre-natal vitamines and that will help alot.

I, too, decided to grow my hair long. My adventure started about 4 years ago. It all began as a slow and painful process. Oh yes, the in-between-stage can be a complete nightmare! During that four years, I made sure that IF I had split ends, I would trim about 1/8" off. I also made sure to take vitamins! I've also heard that prenatal vitamins can stimulate hair growth? (Consult a physician first? I'm NOT giving medical advice and I am NOT a professional.)
After four long years of babysitting my mane, it has now reached about 20" in length and nearly impossible to control. I spend more time trying to maintain it than what I anticipated! (Maybe I'll get it cut?)
Overall, if you want to take on the challenge of maintaining lengthy locks my advice is this: be patient, trim the split ends and make sure you are helping the growth process from the inside-out.
Good Luck!

It would make sense to get a little trim once in a while- maybe every 2-3 months. Also, try not to straightening your hair so often so you don't get the split ends. Someone recommended blowdrying it, but the truth is the blowdrying is just as damaging as using a flat iron.

Dont listen to the girl who said cut it every two weeks. She doesnt know what she's talking about. I'm a certified hairstylist. If you want to grow your hair out, it needs to be healthy, so your hair can work on growing instead of fixing damage. If you have split ends, you should deffinitely get them all cut off. You'll also need to get a trim every 6-8 weeks. Also take vitamins if you dont already. They make special ones for strengthening & repairing hair & nails.

Trimming will keep your hair from splitting out your head(possible) but it wont make it grow faster. To save your hair why not straighten your hair if needed every 3 days and wrap your hair at night? That will save you hair from the stress and possible breakage and you should be able to see a change in a month or two. If not every time you wash your hair use an intensive reconstructor. My fav is Nexxus brand Emergencee. Also you can take vitamins. I take Pharmanex brand Image HSN(hair skin nails) but I would recommend if you want fast results prenatal vitamins.

Hey girl . seems like u know it all already.
split ends must be removed on timely basis
trimming hair regularly helps em grow fast again
hair is a part of our skin
it gets long and shiny if the inner health is good
so eat well
sleep well
keep hair clean
wash twice in a week
use less chemicals
i had long hair up till the age of 27 and i enjoyed e\having the most beautiful hair for that time
instead of herbal shampoos i used herbs ( i know some)
after every wash towel tie Ur hair for 3 5 minutes and then let em dry under the sun for 5 10 minutes. and while u are waiting under the sun, just keep massaging Ur scalp with Ur finger tips
blood circulation on the scalp will help stronger roots and stronger roots and will help the growth of the hair and reduce hair fall.
use dryer and straightener only if going out on special occasions.

Well, it depends on where it is now. Mine was to my chin about 6 years ago. I got it trimmed regularly and now it is to my waist. Sorry, but it will not go fast! You have to condition it, get rid of split ends, and never (or hardly ever) use heating products. So, to start, cut off split ends! This will start you on your path to great hair! When you go to the beach, put your hair in a cap or braid. Make sure that when you brush it, start at the tips and work your way up. This prevents breakage. When you shower use cooler water, this closes the hair cuticles and makes the hair easier to manage. Also, when you dry it (yes, air dry); pat and pat the hair until it is moist. Then comb it with a wide-toothed comb. Spray with leave in conditioner and enjoy! Have fun! :) For more tips, chech out the sites below...

Hair grows from the scalp. What you've already got is dead anyway so I don't think whether or not you have split ends is a real factor in the rate at which your hair grows.
Cutting the split ends off makes it a lot easier to manage though... Looks nicer as well.

personally i would stop straightning your hair and start blowdrying it with a straight brush.. if you straighten it to much your hair will eventually burn and fall out. It does take a long time but you are suppsoed to get a hair cut every 5 weeks. so i would trim your split ends off .
