I have had a terrible earache for about 3 days now. It feels like someone is stabbing me with an ice pick in the side of my head. I get relief with heat but now I have a really sore spot on top of my head. I can feel the pain all the way from my ear to the spot. Is this normal for an earache/infection?

I am going to MedPoint tomorrow, I just wanted to know if anyone had ever had this with an ear infection before. I never have heard of it and was curious.

Whenever I had tooth pain or some other pain on my face or jaw, I always had some point in my scalp which was painful. If there is not nausea with it don't worry too much. But you should go to the doctor for some prescription.

I am surprised that you have made it this long! I have gotten to the point where I would do just about anything to get the pain to stop with some of my past ear infections.
You do need to see a doctor, as others have said. Untreated middle ear infections can have complications, so a doctor's visit is important. The infection can spread to the inner ear, and can even lead to meningitis. The infection can also spread to the bony area behind the ear called the mastoid. The most important thing to remember that the ear is part of your head, and is very close to the brain. Whenever I get earaches, I see about them as soon as possible.

Earaches are the worst. If you've had it that long, you need to visit a ENT. Going to a specialist is always the best. Usually they will clean out the ear if there is a bad infection & perscribe you an antibiotic or steriod for the inner ear swelling. Good luck!
