i know its by machiavelli (sp.) ive been hearing it in songs and such. but what does it mean? plz and ty

It basically means that no matter how much terrible stuff you have to do, achieving the goal in the end made it all worth it. Think the atomic bomb n WWII. The two bombs dropped reulted in millions of deaths. However it oculd be argued that NOT using the bomb would have caused even more deaths because we would have hadto invade the country and fight for every inch. So the end justified the means.

This means that it doesn't matter how you get the results, as long as you gets the results you want. Usually it is said when someone has done something that is socially unacceptable in some way in order to obtain a desirable outcome.

It means that the goal of your actions is worth the suffering it takes to accomplish it, or the end result is worth what it takes to get there. Political leaders use it to guide nations through hardship, promising the reward for thier hard work will be worth it.

It means maybe you did a good thing but you did it in kind of a shady way. The end (result) justified (made acceptable) the means (how you did it).
