It depends on a lot of things, most notably age, experience, and how comfortable he is with sex.
That last point deserves some further explanation. It's a little known fact that many (mostly younger) guys aren't very comfortable with sex. They may act with bravado, or brag about their prowess and how many 'chicks' they have 'chopped' or 'thrashed', but in reality they are insecure little boys who are desperately afraid of women. The bravado is just their way of dealing with it.
Shy guys often (but not always) have the same issue. However, they are mature enough and empathetic enough to deal with it in a very different, much more positive way. And given the right environment, they usually become much more comfortable, much sooner than their braggart brothers do.
In any event, as a general rule, the more knowledgeable and comfortable a guy is with the sexual aspects of his own body, as well as that of his partner, the longer he will last in bed. This is why the longer a relationship stays healthy and loving, the better the sex becomes. Of course, regular practise also improves stamina. ;-)
Now, as for the sex feeling like a duty thing, I honestly can't comment here. I've never made love because I felt it was my duty to. Always, it was because I wanted to. If I didn't want to, I wouldn't, and would explain to my partner why I didn't want to. Likewise, if I had even a suspicion that my partner was not fully into what we were doing, I'd stop the play and ask her how she's feeling.
That said, I'm a strong and confident person who is more comfortable than most people are with sex-related matters. I won't go into the reasons for that here, but suffice it to say that the confusion, anxiety, and fear of women and sex, are concepts that are completely alien to me.
In addition, the vast majority of my friends are female. I appreciate how the female mind works (partly because my own mind works largely that way, too), and thus do my best to anticipate the needs of my partner in intimate moments.
Guys tend to confound me almost as much as they confound you girls. They think in ways that, to me, seem very strange indeed. Often, it seems to me that they think more of their own needs and how to meet them, than the needs of others.
Not that I'm calling guys selfish mind you, far from it. Often, selfishness doesn't even come into the picture. They just have a nature that is very different from the nature of a female, and generally have to be told or taught many things. Some of these things include what you want from lovemaking. Remember, most guys aren't mind readers like us. And those that are, are like us anyway, so this discussion doesn't apply to them. :-)
However, many guys simply aren't aware that their partner _has_ needs. This is particularly true of the younger ones. And this is where open, honest communication is cruicial to the health of a relationship.
If you're having bedroom problems with your guy, my advice is to talk to him about it. Tell him what you want, and be willing to teach him how to pleasure you physically. Likewise, you should practise on him. Practise giving him pleasure, but not letting him finish too soon. Over time, extend the duration of these 'practise sessions', and he'll learn how to hold back and keep himself from finishing too soon. Plus it will be fun for both of you. :-)
Anyway, I hope this helps. Good luck!

Well, you're asking about the guy and relating it to "the duty"..?
Can't relate to that... However, I can relate to my part with the lady.. I don't think of it in terms of "number of times" but rather quality... that is, I like to get her on the edge and keep her there for awhile... In terms of length of time.. If I'm tired and don't want to take hours, then I don't keep her on the edge as long.... As for me, I get as much pleasure from pleasing my lady as I do getting off.
In your case... 3-5 minutes????? are they dwarfs or what???
By the way... nice picture.
