I just wanted to point out one thing. The price of the Win2k upgrade should be close to the amount for the full copy. I strongly discourage from upgrading Win98 to 2000. I'd do a total wipe of 98 and do a fresh 2000 install. For one thing, 98 is using the FAT 32 file system. Even though you can make 2000 install with FAT32 mode, it's biggest plus is the fact is has NTFS file system. With NTFS, if you turn the power off while the computer is running (not properly shutting down) then the files don't get corrupt. You ever notice in 98 whenever your system locks up or whatever, it always needs to do a scan disk? With NTFS, say goodbye to that forever. If you upgrade 98, then you'll have to maintain the FAT32 deal. During a fresh install of 2000, it will ask if you want to format the drive with FAT32 or NTFS, you want NTFS. Plus 98 and 2000 have totally different kernels. There is really nothing in the Windows directory of your 98 machine that is compatible anyways. It will probably delete most of the stuff off anyways but probably leave a bunch of crap thats useless taking up space as well.

I'm sure you want to do an upgrade cuz it sounds easier and plus you won't lose the programs you already have installed. But if you got the original CD's to programs you want to keep, then just do a reinstall of the software after you get 2000 running. I've been there done that, been using Windows since the 16bit 3.1 version and have tried every upgrade/full copies of every windows operating system to date (except Vista). A fresh install is the best way to go.
