TELL YOUR DAD HE HAS TO GO TO THE DOCTOR. It is probably a symptom that can be relieved with an anti- inflammatory drug. and it could be a problem w/ his circulation Tell your DAD THAT HE DON'T HAVE TO LIVE IN PAIN!!!! Tell him that it hurts YOU to see him this way. That alone should get him to the doctor.

Is your dad diabetic? and even if he isn't, he needs to go to a doctor or the emergency room immediatey. Excessive relentless pain can indicate a severe infection, expecially if accompanied by swelling and fever He may be in immediate need of some kind of antibiotic. He may also have some kind of closed toe fracture or a fracture of one or some of the metatarsals in his foot. It is foolish to let this go undiagnosed. Take him to a doctor or emergency room at once! (Especially if he is a diabetic. He could lose toes or an entire foot if there is an infection of some kind that goes untreated.)

It sure sounds like gout! Gout comes in waves then goes away for a while. Each out break seems a bit stronger than the earlier ones. All he needs to do is show it to the doctor. Not a big deal. THe doctor will give him a prescription and a list of foods which can cause frequent outbreaks.

Look up gout on your favorite search engine. It should give you the symptoms and some suggestions for helping yourself such as diet changes.

The fever is a key sign that there must be some kind of infection. He really does need to see a doctor. If it is an infection, he will need antibiotics. They will probably do an xray of some type and maybe some bloodwork. You are very sweet to worry about your dad. I hope you can convince him to go to the doctor. Good luck.

He should put his foot in ice water to isolate the pain away. Then put his foot in warm water to ease the pain away. Massages will also help.If this doesn't help(which it should) it may be infected and he should see a doctor .

It sounds like it is infected.

Tell him if he'll end up at the doctors one way or another and it's up to him whether goes to get treatment or if he goes for an amputation.
