I just think it's cool that you have a 1940's style cabin. White IS a bad idea- I think an old-fashioned shade of green would be sweet. Consider the Moose as an inside theme and maybe a wood silhouette of one on the side of the cabin itself? Here's a few sites with cabin stuff, good luck to you.

One more idea: go to a local museum or historical society and see if they would have an idea of old colors. I imagine most of the photos are black and white but there's got to be some information out there.

1940's decor was very colorful with rich barkcloth and bright colors. I think a muted yellow or light green would look great with rich colors in the upholstery.

Here's a 1940's Source Book for decorating.

I know this is a strange reply, but a lot of the 1945 movie, 'Leave Her to Heaven" takes place in a cabin setting...of course Hollywood decor can be a bit over the top at times, but if you watch this movie, you'll be sure to get some good ideas....it's always on the cable channels or try your local library....it's worth a look!!!!!! and it's a good movie, too.......

Yellow sounds good to me. Remember when you're choosing a color that, in the 1940s they didn't have all the "custom" colors we have today...best to stick with primary shades and pastels...also...wallpaper was BIG in the 40s...big, bold floral prints, scrollwork prints, etc...
