Our 3 year old Sheltie, has what we think, is alergies, that cause him itching, mostly of nose & face. The Vet. is giving him Temerol- P which does help, but lately it doesn't seem as effective. We have eliminated anything that we suspect as a cause. i.e. replaced plastic feeding.water bowls with glass, give filtered water, careful to wipe his feet after walks, etc. He scratches, sometimes so hard that he makes wounds on his nose. Any suggestins for either home-care or new options from Vet. will be appreciated.

could it be a form of scabies?

This is a trait of shetland sheep dog. It probably is alergies. You should talk with your vet if you think what he is giving the dog is working any more.

My mom's sheltie had the same probably and he got shots from the vet that helped.

Have you considered putting booties on his paws to minimize the damage he does to his face during scratching? It could help in the meantime until you find the source of the allergy or find another medication.

I would try children's BENADRL...i think that might help...alot less expensive also...I think it is grape and can be put into peanut butter for the cute little sheltie...

sounds like demodex to me....mange on the face is very common(it's hereditary ie. susceptibility)...did the vet do a scraping to see??? it is insidious and once a dog has had it, they can pass it on to others or get it again.....
