My chi always brings her toys to my feet to play with. She doesn't go off to the carpet and play, where she would have ample room to entertain herself. Why does she do this? She will chew her bone on top of my shoes, as well. I used to think she wanted to engage me in play, but when I take the toy to toss it, she growls and acts like a nut. Then she goes after it and comes back. Could her behavior be a form of dominance? What can I do to stop this?

SHE GROWLS WHEN I TAKE THE TOY FROM HER TO THROW IT! This must mean something more than just play????

I don't think it's a matter of her wanting to play with you as it is the fact that she feels safe with you. The "carpet" can be a big place and as long as she can feel you close by, she knows she's safe and protected. If she wants you to play with her, she'll make an effort to get your attention, otherwise just leave her to play. My dogs do this as well and when they want to play, they'll jump into my lap with their toys.

I would work on her growling at you. She needs to know that you're the boss and if you want to take her toys...you can. My Cairn Terrior used to do that with her toys, her food, everything she considered hers. It took a little work, but by taking her "things" away from her repeatedly, correcting her when she growled, and praising her when she didn't...I was able to correct the behavior. She just needed to know that I was just moving it or playing with her...I wasn't taking it away from her.

Your dog is trying to get you to play with her. When your dog growls at you from taking the toy, then she's just playing, it's a game to her. There is nothing wrong, she just want to play. As for stopping it....I don't know how because I never tried to stop my dog from this, perhaps someone can answer that question for you. Good Luck.

My dog does the same thing. When i'm on my laptop or watching tv she goes and picks out a toy from her collection and drops in whever I may be (on top of my laptop or on my lap). I simply take the toy, throw it, and we become engaged in a game of fetch.

As for the growling she grows when I take the toy for her, but she's just playing. We end up going at it, I grab an end and she has one end and we play tug o war. Eventually I win (or I let her win), and when I win I take the toy and trow it and the cycle repeats.

There are a few real keys to dog training, whether you are trying to train your dog to come when called, sit, stop barking or any other behavior. Understanding their importance is critical to achieving rapid results that are long lasting and help develop the bond between you and your dog. Learn more http://OnlineDogTraining.enle.info/?5907

The first is simple; you must win your dogs mind. If you don’t achieve this first then you will be struggling the all the way. When I talk about winning your dogs mind what I really mean is that your dog looks to you for all the decisions. Before you do anything else watch one of the amazing video sites that show you the 5 Golden rules to establishing yourself as the pack leader. If you aren’t putting these in place then you are setting yourself up to fail. Just at the crucial point where you really want your dog to listen they will go and do their own thing. For sure your dog may play ball occasionally or even most of the time, you may even have a dog that is obedient 99% of the time, however if you want a dog who always listens to you and does as you ask then you need to win your dogs mind.

The second key to success is to motivate your dog. It is really important that you discover what it is that your dog enjoys both in terms of exercise and play but also in terms of a reward. If you can make the experience enjoyable then you will both achieve more and look forward to training.

Some dogs love to fetch, others love agility, and other dogs simply love obedience training, or swimming out into water and retrieve. At least to start with find out what your dogs love is and help them develop this, what I am saying is work with your dog. The other point to recognize is to make training enjoyable reward your dog.

She's sharing them with you, and wants to play with YOU. She's trying to get your attention. Pick up the toys and toss them, and see if she doesn't love to run after them!
