Minors (under age 16) only have 5 years before they need to renew their passports.

A US passport obtained for a minor under 16 is only good for 5 years. You will need a new one.

It usually last 10 years, however, since you turned 16 you will need to get a new passport. If you are a US citizen you should go to http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html for more info.

They used to be good for 10 years, but now it's five.

It costs bucks to get a new one. I'd keep looking for the old one if I were you.
