My Boxer has a leg injury today. It's his rear left leg and he can't seem to put weight on it. I felt around on the paw and below the joint - he didn't have pain there. But on the inside of his leg on the upper area there is a knot. What would cause this?

This is a question for your vet. If your dog's leg is injured to the extent of not being able to put weight on it, he definately needs a trip to the 24 hour pet clinic.

The best person to ask this to is your vet. I do not know your vet hours on the weekend, but if they're open tomorrow then you should place phone call to your vet and talk to them. They will advise you on what to do, most likely they will tell you that they will need to take a look at the leg so that they can properly diagnose the situation and give proper medication.

Without a proper exam no one can really tell you what the problelm is. Good Luck.

did your boxer do it after running or playing fetch?
It possbily is a partical or total cruciate ligament breakage or stretch.
Go to vet and get some non steriodial anti inflammatories (pain relief as it is very painful) and see how it goes , if still not weight bearing in 2 weeks will need surgery to repair the ligament. This is VERY common in boxers. The knot will be the muscle holding the leg to stop it moving as if it moves its painful this is also common and after surgery often have to do physio to releave this muscle

I really can't say. I am not a vet. But you should make an appointment with one on Monday to have it checked out. In the mean time, do NOT give it any medications that are not approved by the vet. No human medication should be given without first approval from the vet.

That use to happen to my dalmatian and the Vet said it was a sprain and it could have been caused by running too much. It depends if your dog is old, though. Old dogs become fragile and some develop arthritis, like mine. You should still call your Vet to be safe.

Yowee - Boxers are known for being very stoic - if he is showing pain, he needs to go to a vet ASAP. He may have torn a ligament, broken a bone, or ???

He could have a cyst or a tumor. It's not something to mess around with it get him to the vet immediately for a proper evaluation. Good luck.

I work in a vet office and might be able to help. I agree that he should be administered to your local vet at once. Probably has pulled something or dislocated it.
