I recently bought a 8 week old Shih Tzu and he has thrown up 3 times. He has only been here with me for 24 hours

Sometimes when you change the food on an animal like a shih tzu they get sick really easily. Goes for treats also. If he is still getting sick after 2 days, you may want to take him in to the vet.

I agree that it's best to get the puppy to the vet, but until then I can tell you what we did with my shih-tzu puppy when she ahd the exact same problem after coming home....

1. Don't give her water, give her Pedialyte instead.
2. Take away the dog food, and instead give PLAIN HOMEMADE mashed potatoes... just boil them and smash away. They appreciate it when you warm them up (they'll keep in the fridge for a couple of days)
3. She actually ended up having an infection when she came home, so she was on antibiotics for a couple of weeks. Once the situation calmed down, we started giving her a little bit of puppy food again.

So you know, Science Diet makes a puppy food for sensitive stomachs in Small Bites. It's easier for them to chew and is kinder on the belly.

And to get the vomit stains out of the carpet, a product called SpotShot works best.

Where did you get this puppy from?? A pet store, a breeder or a rescue? It could just be a transitional thing, getting used to his new home etc., it could also be a food thing. Yes, they can be just nervous. When I got one of my Tzu's, she vomited a few times when I got her home. Could have been car sickness. But I got her from a shelter and knew her background etc. Depending on where you got him, I would contact the breeder or pet store. If they are reputable, they will help you out. If they are not, you have a problem. Could be a puppy mill dog. I personally would take him to a vet ASAP and get him thoroughly checked out.

possibilities......coccidia, hookworms, parvo, dogs do not get nervous and vomit...be concerned...call the "breeder" and ask why he is sick...take the dog's temperature...if it is high, then rush to vet...parvo can kill a puppy in 1-2 days......
