Mine seemed to mostly dream of fighting and chasing prey from what I've observed of their body motions and vocalizations.
I've watched them sniff in their sleep like they are scenting, their paws twitch like they are running, soft "woofing" like they are baying on the trail (mine were foxhounds, and hunted by scent and gave cry to let other dogs hark to them) I've heard them pant as they ran like they were really pushing themselves. Anyone who ever hunted with a scent hound could pick up from these cues that the dogs were chasing something. I heard my brother's coonhound bark "treed" in a dream several times when I was a kid.
There's another dream that seems pretty evident, the big fight and/or running off the intruders. Growls, snarls, teeth baring, etc.
I've heard dogs whine when they dream. I can't tell what's up with that--I suspect that it's about being injured or abandoned but it's tough to say. Not a lot of other body language like the other dreams to cue you.
The fourth dream is kinda funny. I had a full grown dog that dreamed of nursing. You'd see him making sucking motions with his jaws along with little whines and grunts. If you put your finger in his mouth while he was asleep, he'd suck your finger. He'd even knead with his paws like pups do when they're nursing. What made this hilarious is that Rex was a 90lb doberman watchdog extrodinare in his waking hours.

Falling in love with this other dog and having perfect puppies. Then having a luxury home with plush pillows Huge bones, and The biggest, greenest yard tat it can run around in. Then, The dog will cheat and have moe and more puppies that are perfect but the dogs that they were cheating on won't get mad. Also, that they will have some of the finest moist dog food in the country. If I was a dog, I would dream of that.

I believe they dream of eating; chasing cars and cats; and playing. Of course I have had a few that have had nightmares too; one happened after another dog attacked mine; poor baby had nightmares for several nights!~

I think my dog dreams about running. Her feet move just like she's running when she's asleep and it cracks me up.
