We dont have any cats left because we got a special building for the cats, but then the last few we had left died for some kind of cat distemper... Now we got a new cat, but its a inside cat.

EDIT - - We know for sure that there is a pack of coyotes. At least 3 - 5 of them. I live in minnesota and we do not have as much snow as we normally do. We have been hearing the coyotes at night and i have seen 2 of them once when i went outside.to feed my rabbits about 11 in the night. They ran off as soon as they saw me though. They have killed about 2 of my rabbits intelll i moved them inside of my barn. They have been barking/ yipping kinda at night and my lab answers them back. I talked to someone that lives near me and they say that the coyotes are calling my dogs in to attack them. Is that true?

If you have an intact female it is less likely but possible. If she is in heat you might see more coyotes as they will want to breed with her. Large breeds are less likely to be killed by coyotes but somtimes even large breeds will fall victim because they lack the natural viciousness of a wild animal. It is usually cats and small breed dogs that I have wittnesed become food. Some people use dogs while hunting coyotes, they will send the dogs out in a semi circle, this causes the territorial coyote to pursue it. Then as the Coyote come into range it is shot. If your lab and husky are together I would strongly believe most coyotes we avoid them. In Halfmoon Bay, California a few years back a coyote had been stalking people and pets on a walking path. A guy took his two rotties on a walk with him and they tore the coyote into pieces.

It depends on how hungry they are and how many of them there are.

About 10 years ago we had a winter with very little snow---this is in a place where we had snow on the ground from Oct. to May.

The deer were getting away from the coyotes and the coyotes were hungry and started attacking whatever they could. One poor guy had a dog tied in his yard and they killed it. A couple of people reported coyotes attacking their dogs while out walking with them (they chased the coyotes off).

So if coyotes usually eat your neighbor's chickens, your dogs are probably safe. If you have had unusual weather or something happen to make the coyotes desperate and start hunting near people, then I would be extra careful.

A coyote won't eat a dog. unless its a little dog. then a pack might get it. They are easily scared off. They won't attack anything as big as a cow. They won't even come near my basset hound that isn't even fully grown. If the eat a dog or any thing bigger than its self then you are dealing with something much different than a coyote. The only time you have to worry is when they get brave, like when they come around in the daylight and right up to your house, but a gun takes care of that problem.

coyotes do not usually go after dogs the same size or larger than themselves, but will go after small dogs and cats, as you know. Your dogs will likely keep them away, most coyotes are quite small only weighing 30-35 pounds, so a lab and a husky are pretty substantial in comparison. Someone mentioned killing the coyotes...that is not going to solve anything, other coyotes will come to replace them, and it is illegal to kill coyotes unless you have a permit issued by US Fish and Wildlife Service. They are just doing what comes naturally to them and should not be killed for simply trying to survive. If people kept their cats and chickens in a safe place, coyotes could not get to them.

A coyote most likely won't eat a big dog like a husky or a lab, especially if the dogs are dully grown, but they may try to fight with them, which could end up injuring your dogs. Basically, don't leave them outside unattended at night.

huskies are know to be kinda like a wolf because of the way it acts and the way their faces look and they would probably fight one off. i don't know about a lab though. you'd think i would know about the husky b/c i used to have 2 of them until last summer when one of them had to be put to sleep b/c she was old and couldn't move her 2 back legs and my other one had to be put to sleep last Saturday because she had a tumor the size of a baseball. also if the dogs are fenced in then the coyotes couldn't get them(?) or start keeping them inside all the time.

If you know of anybody that has a half wolf /half dog borrow it for a couple of nights . The coyote will smell the wolf and stay away from it and will stay away from your place for ever cause coyotes are deathly afraid of wolfs and they will stay away from anyplace that smells of wolf . Sorry about your cats that s hard. If you cant borrow that type of dog then get yourself a load of ammunition and a riffle with a scope on it prefably infared . You will have to destroy it cause it has become a nuisiance of livestock. good luck hope i helped.

Any animal that's about a coyote's size is probably safe from being eaten, but I'd definitely worry about attacks. Also, you might want to think about keeping you cats indoor from now on, if you have any left, that is.

we have cayotes here.... a lot

they do not mess around with our two great pyranees and they will not mess around with your lag and husky specially is they are adults. two dogs will guard your home area together so they make a great team.

your type of dogs will normally fend out a cayote with little or no injuries.....now, if it is a pack of cayote who are feeding their young, they are known to attach dogs not to eat them (cayotes don't eat dogs) but to be able to get to the other livestock the dogs are guarding.....

cayotes run at night (nocternal hunters) ....coyotes will attack your cats, chickens, rabbits (if they can catch them), newborn calf (if they are not watch by their mothers).

keep your cat inside as it is not only safer against the cayotes but your cat will not get diseases as much as when they are outside. at least do not let your cat out at nights when the cayotes are out there hunting.

Coyotes will only go after small prey like chickens, cats and even small dogs. I would not worry about the dogs.
