Cats don't believe you own them, or that your are the parent, they believe they own you! They have just decided which one of you belongs to them.

Animals do not see you as a parent. If you are trying to see an animal through humanizing its actions, you'll miss a lot.
Some cats like no one, some cats like everyone and some cats are choosy. I can't tell you why one prefers you and not the other, but its normal cat nature. It could be that each cats choice better suits their personalities.

Yes, i think so...i have 3 cats and my 2 oldest ones go to me espically my gray and white cat, thunder...the minute, my fiancee gets up and leaves the bedroom...thunder will come and lie on me in the bed...They really do not "hang out" with my fiancee as he is never home, he is a workaholic(lucky me) so the cats hardly ever see him and my youngest cat goes to and follows my 8 yr old daughter around the house.

Your cat (and dog for that matter) will bond with the person that serves their purpose... mainly food, shelter, and attention. If their needs are not met to their expectations they will move on to someone else.
I have a new relationship, and the cat is clinging to me moreso than he did with my ex-. However, I'm certain that if I was away for any amount of time, he would quickly replace me with the next best thing...

You don't own your cats, your cats own you. They sleep where they wish and if you are in their spot, may hell darn on you because you will get a look like you have never been looked at before.

Cats are just like any other pets. They'll get attached to one person in particular because that's who they get the most attention from. You're lucky they both didn't choose your boyfriend!
