in the 1980s during the Iran/Iraq war we supplied both sides as well as the russian neither side wanting the other to gain a foot hold in the region. at the same time Hussein was conducting bio/chemical weapons testing on his own population (kurds in the north) and rebellious Sunnis. this was known to the american goverment, we sent our then secrteary of defense and he was told to "cool it". ill will was left in the region because of these politcal machinations. in '91 Hussein invaded Kuwait no one wanted this ANYWARE. the saudis thought they were next the western world didnt want a "growing iraqi empire", so on and so forth. thus insues Operation Gulf Storm. were we left the bill unfinished and left Hussien intact.
Sept 11... well this happens bush rightfully dismembers the Taliban. then the US Armed forces gear up for operation iraqi freedom... well this comes about under a haze of propaganda "WMD, Iraq trains terrorists... etc... etc... etc..."
WMD: wont touch that one with a 100ft poll
terrorists: Hussien was a totalitarian regime (secular goverment) that bush was able to sell the public on the idea that HE let radical islamic fundmentalists in his country... i still shake my head and wonder about that one
if Hussein had a crystal ball who knows.. ill just leave you with this point Hussein idolized one main in history his name was Stalin

Saddam Hussein was bought to justice by the Americans and ourselves ... well abit late .... in my opinion. Yes he committed many crimes but at the same time we were friends with him.
To know he was hanged in a barbaric way puts us to shame in the west adds to the ill timing of his prosecution. We went to war because we thought he had WMD and Oil and all for but a mock trial end up killing the Iraqi President by proxy meanwhile where is the Bosnian leader (karadich?) during the kosovan crisis? Probably living in Britain!!
Saddam Hussein most certainly fell on Britain and U.S. Swords.

That's true. I can remember when the British Government was training his naval officers and army officers in England during the1980s when he was at war with Iran and at the same time carrying out some of the worst atrocities against his own people such as the gassing at Halabja.
During this same period the USA was flying AWACs from Saudi Arabia to give him military intelligence abou Iran and using its navy to blockade the Persian Gulf to stop Iranian oil tankers and protect Iraqi shipping.

Would you want Bill Clinton for a friend?? Clinton invited Saddam for a visit to the U.S. He DIDN'T see himself captured by U.S. forces because he thought the Clinton America was too cowardly to try that. He was right. He just didn't count on G.W. Bush taking action because of further attacks on America.

Had he not started murdering and torturing his own people and his neighbors, he might still have friends in America and Britain.
Not to mention the little "oil for food" scandal, or playing duck-duck-goose with inspectors.

He probably saw what had happened in American and British society and concluded that we had lost our morality. He had made a miscalculation and reckoned without Bush and Blair.
