Im considering buying a RAV4 because my gf is pregnant.

Is there any point in me getting a 4WD? It rarely snows around here, so I don't see what other advantages it has.

Well in the rain the car will have a better traction on the road. If your a outdoors type person you'll be able to go on those trials with ease. Even if it doesnt snow have you concidered freezing rain and ice? If you don't want a 4WD car get a FWD car because they stay glued to the road just as well and have a bit better gas millage.

I always heard that with a 2wd you could drive out in a field and get stuck. With a 4wd you can drive way, way out in a field and get stuck.
If you have no, or very little snow and no mud, you don't need it. It will add to every expense on your car, initial cost, maintenance, and fuel bill.
But, if you have the money, and really want one, get it. You only live once.

the only real advantage to owning one of them is the fact that they will go good in bad weather,,other than that the rest of the year the 4 wheel drive wont get used much in it,,i own one and it snows maybe twice a year where I'm at,,so the rest of the year im driving it ,,for the sake of saying im driving a 4 wheel drive,,and paying more for fuel for it also,,its something to think about,,its there if you need it though,,is the way i look at it,,if not, then i don't worry about it,,good luck hope this help,s.

I'm getting rid of mine cause I prefer rear wheel drive with studs for ice. 4 wheel drives, I've had them pass me,then miles down the road I see them in a ditch. They are good for Canada or driving on the beach. They waste to much fuel.

its good to have a 4wd if it snows a lot in your area or if it rains alot. the traction on the wheels is a lot better than regular cars.

4WD is popular in off roading, but as far as normal city and highway driving go....beats me, I'd guess its up to the buyer.
