"Gay" isn't a word you would use to describe it. They don't understand homosexuality by any means. If two birds happen to bond and are housed together, gender aside, they will be affectionate and because of hormonal triggers by each other and their surroundings (ie. if there are places to hide/lay eggs, have nesting materials, extra food, too much daylight), they will by any means try to mate.

There is nothing sexual about attractions they have. They're attracted by sometimes physical plumage, nest, or mating display (many displays are neutral gender wise, but they all send the same message that they're looking for a mate), but to have one bird see another bird of the same sex and "go for it" because of that is unreal to assume of them. "French kissing" was actually regurgitating. It's what mated/bonded pairs do during mating seasons where they feed each other affectionately, similarly to the way they would feed their young.

I don't understand the 'ew' remarks. It sounds like a bunch of five year olds seeing mommy and daddy kiss. :\

First of all, yes, there are female canaries that will set up housekeeping together, go through the motions of mating, even building a nest and laying eggs, though of course the eggs wont hatch. Are they "gay", I dont know if you can really qualify it as that. I

In some cases its because there is no male around. Hormones get to raging and they do the best they can. But, there are some cases where one of the females may have too much testastarone in her system. She will act like a male and sing. She can still lay eggs, but even if she mates with a male, they are infertile.

i seen a documentary of a couple of bald eagles .. they were both males and they did not mate with the females of their species.. the people that ran the bird sanctuary decided to try something.. they placed a egg from one of the other nest into theirs.. those two birds raised that egg or hatch ...and both took turns feeding the young.. so i would go with yes they can be gay..a friend of mines has a male dog like that he wont touch a female dog in heat for nothing

People and some other primates practice this. Birds may be affectionate to each other due to bonding, but no sexual contact is involved. They do not choose to be "gay" and breed if conditions are right. Have a nice day.

My friends budgie is really protective of a male cockatoo to the point of not letting any other birds near it so it might be gay. It would not surprised me.

Oh no GAY birds, I don't think that you are upset by gay birds are you? If you are god help us. You know that dolphins can be gay, and they are doing it in the ocean! double yuk!

What is this world coming to, gay birds, I think that's funny. I don't think that they are gay, but like someone else said that's what birds do, to keep clean. Its OK.

But if they are gay what will you do? What will the world do? Run..............Gay Birds!

Parrots can't be gay... They were simply cleaning each other's beak or they might have had food in their mouths that the other bird wanted and was trying to get.

They could be, there's been cases of swans partnering up female to female, or male to male. I wouldn't discount the possibility, and honestly, does it really matter? Since you have two of the same sex its not like you were expecting to breed them or anything. Then again, they may have just been showing affection to one another or grooming each other (another form of affection).
