They already have their minds made up, and thus are indeed closed-minded. They don't seek truth, they only come in here to throw mud on Christianity. Fortunately, none of it sticks, and only leaves them with dirty hands.

No, they just have trouble believeing that a book that has been translated so many times, and there are so many versions that sometime contridict each other, can be the unalduterated word of God.
I do not say the entire Bible is a lie, but I can not accept it as the unalduterated word of God.
I got pulled into here answering a question on the main page and then other questions that looked interesting. I have not asked a question here, nor do I intend to, but if I did, it would be to find an answer, not to mock anyones belief.
I have, however, seen many Christians who will go to the science sections and ask questions that, not only are usually supposing things that are not correct, but are only an attempt to mock the theorys and laws of science.
Anyway, you asked a question and I tried to answer.

Rational discussion automatically leads to the conclusion that the Bible is false. Any person who's discussion about the Bible does not come to this conclusion is either incapable or unwilling to be rational. Therefore, the Christian that draws a different conclusion is the one shutting down rational thought, much less discussion.

I think atheists are generally far more open-minded than Christians give them credit for. If you have some proof to offer, we are typically happy to have a look. Truth is, most of us have read your book, which is more than you can say for a lot of Christians. At various points, the Bible promotes polygamy, misogyny, murder, collective punishment, incest, genocide, and slavery, among other endorsements. As modern human beings, we should HOPE that it's all a lie, because for such a terrible deity to exist would be an insufferable woe upon mankind.

If they say the Bible is a lie, than they are not being rational, because there are many historical and scientific facts in it.
If they say that there are some things that they consider a lie, than we have something to talk about.

That's a very good question. I do agree that attack is probably not the best way to engage in dialogue. I would also think that works on the other side of the debate as well, when Christians rail against atheists. Perhaps we ought to just treat people's question as requests for information, and answer them to the best or our ability.

I don't say it's a lie, I say it's fiction. Surely, theists do exactly the same thing. They shut down all rational discussion as well. Something like yahoo answers will neve change a theist to an atheist or vice versa.

I don't always ask questions of fact to Christians (nor to anyone else, for that matter.)
In direct defiance with Y!Answers policy, I ask questions of opinion for the most part.
When I ask questions regarding the bible, I am not accepting the answer as true or factual, but asking what the answerer's interpretation of the scripture at issue is.
There are, for the record, also Christians who regard the bible as not necessarily factual, but still feel it is a good guidebook for them to live their lives by.

If you listen carefully, most Atheists do no call the bible a flat out lie. I contend that the bible is a bunch of stories that has been told and retold over the ages. Also you have to look at the history of when the bible was penned. There were no such things as printing presses. One man's story becomes one man's religion. Over generation and generation it becomes fact to those individuals because the trust those that are telling it to them. It doesn't mean the bible is any more true.

well in a way they are basically asking you why do you believe in it when the atheists feel that they can prove that a higher being doesn't exist as most atheists were either christian or have studied and observed the bible and can quote it to back up their claims anyway i'm agnostic

They want the truth, but refuse to believe that the Bible is truthful. They are in a hard place. Faith is a difficult thing to explain to someone who has never accepted this concept. We might as well be speaking in another language.
