A lot of people think that going for a glass of water will stop the burning. WRONG! Best advice: If you can, get a piece of bread or a dinner roll and smother it with butter or margarine, then eat it. The burning will go away almost immediately. Milk works too as it is a dairy product. Stay away from colas, water or alcohol as they will only worsen it.

I once saw a program in which they did a test on this, the 1st group of volunteers drank beer, the second water and the third milk after eating very spicy food, the third group experienced less burning...so try and drink a glass of milk.

Dairy products such as milk, ice cream, sour cream or wipped cream.

I was watching a show on the Food Network about hot peppers and the sauces that are made from them. They mentioned that these items helped to cool things off. Hmm....there's more than one reason why they serve sour cream with your Mexican food!

eating a banana will kill the spice instantly. There's something in it that neutralizes the acid (for example, it also helps with heartburn). I don't know where I read this, but I've tried it and it definitely works!

You don't drink anything carbonated like soda because it'll get worse. Bread, water, and maybe milk will work.

I've heard that an alcoholic drink(better if not carbonated) or milk works!
