No, you do not serve port cold. Period.
Port is generally seved at cellar temperature - this is NOT room temperature. Tawny Port should be between 50 and 60 degrees, depending on the vintage. To accomplish this, place it in your fridge for 10 - 30 minutes before serving, depending on its start temperature.

For Tawny Port, at around 60 degrees... Room temperature is fine. If room temperature is 80, then maybe chill it for 10 minutes.

The main reason to serve wines in stemmed glasses is so that your hand does not warm up the wine. Hence, you tend to get stemmed glasses with chilled wines. A general rule used to be that white and sparkling wines are served chilled, while reds are served at room temperature. However this can depend on the temperature in the room! This, however is not true, it does wholly depend on the wine being served.

Well. As a rule, white desert wines are very sweet. Canadian Ice Wines are particularly wonderful. However, if you are serving a port, room temperature is better. Not unlike the guidelines for regular wines.... whites chilled, reds best slightly below room temp....

We always serve any ports at room temperature, but some of our friends prefer it chilled.
Try tasting both ways with your dessert and see which one you prefer.
