I have a sick adult cat, about 6 to 7 lbs., and I want to make sure that I am giving her enough water to keep her hydrated. She drinks some on her own but not enough to keep her hydrated.

Not enough if they eat only dry cat food. My male cats eat only canned food and a raw meat diet and they don't drink from the water bowl. My very old cat (22 and 1/2) drank TONS of water and peed profusely to help her kidneys flush waste from her body. She ate mostly wet food too.

I do have a cat who eats only dry food and I worry that she doesn't drink enough water to keep her kidneys healthy.

I feed my cats wet food primarily and a handful of dry each per day. They stay hydrated becuase of the wet food (78% water) but will also drink from their fountain after they eat dry food. I would say that the average cat should have an intake of between 8 to 20 oz. of water per day to keep kidneys functioning well depending on weight and the weather (cats will drink more in hot weather).

it depends on the cat. just leave a bowl of fresh water every day and when you grab it the next day to fill it look at how much water is gone. but i doubt that any amount is too little or too much

that would depend on the size of the cat..a full grown cat can sometimes drink a cup or more in hot weather..
