I would say Hindi for nationalistic reasons. I am from the Philippines and it is also a problem for us here. We speak over a 100+ dialects all over the archipelago. The government chose 1 dialect as the official Philippine language however we use English (American based) extensively in schools, media, government and commercial transactions. In fact the Philippines is the 3rd largest country in the world that uses the English language. However the extensive use of English is slowly destroying the local dialects. Some English words are being "murdered" to adjust to the local dialects. We retain the English word but its pronunciation is compromised. Sometimes it sounds weird that English and the local dialect are combined as one sentence during a conversation. It is also a problem especially for the uneducated poor who can not afford to go to school and learn English well.
If you want English to become your language you must stop teaching Hindi similar to what Spaniards did in the Latin American countries, most of which now only speaks Spanish

Well india has many other languages but Hindi seems to be the most popular language of that country....and proof is in the pudding ...look at the movies! most popular movies watched all around the world is Hindi! so it`s obvious that Hindi should be the official language of india but this might offend other language groups if they perceive that the so called change made was intended to make theirs an inferior language then the official language should be english!

Well, I would say english because in english things are shorter and less complicated like in italian, there are seven ways you can say the, but in english you just say the for everything. English (no offense to other languages) takes out the pointless words and you dont need a certain accent to speak it. And If they spoke english, we wouldnt have to worry about translating.

India has about a bazillion native languages within its borders. It's asenine to elevate one of them to a position above the others. English is the world's lingua franca, as well as the language of business. Indians, as well as people from any other nation, would be well-served to become proficient in English.

english would be better for them internationally and for their own development as a nation. few people other than the indians speak hindi or want to learn but almost everyone wants to learn english and many already speak it in many countries.
