I mean you can still have Beatifull Archictecture and Energy Efficiency more key in construction and also use Sustainable and Eco-friendly products in the design when Feasible.

Engineering is the art to do the most for the least. So, engineers are always trying to do something that will use the least amount of material, fuel, energy, you name it; balanced with other considerations (security, longevity, ect.)
So, the energy efficiency bit IS part of the equation. But the customer say he does not want to pay 10% more for a better insulation, and claims he does not mind to pay more each year for lost energy, we engineers are stuck.

Our company just moved into a newly constructed energy efficient building last year. Somethings were done spot on, others leave much to be desired.

The most comical was the design was to maximize the use of ambient light and have plenty of Glass... Sounds great save electricity have a feeling of openness.... They even told use to not bring our old desk lights from the old office because they wouldn't be needed...

Turns out many people complained of direct sun light causing glare. Workers started taping paper to windows to block the sun... So the company installed automatic window shades (a retro fit) to the tune of $250,000!!! yes a quarter of a million. Solves the glare problem by they did not spend any money for a light sensor to adjust the shades. Instead they are on a timer.

The result is the shades are down on bright and cloudy days and I've installed two lights in my cubicle (as well as other coworkers)
So I burning electricity because the shades are down, No mechanical or local override.

What a F@#k UP....

Isn't it time you stop whining and learn about the real world? Engineers optimize designs. Things like cost and construction time and availability of material are hard limits. The trade offs are calculated, not emotionally concocted. The truth is that energy is expensive, so lots of money is put into making energy efficient buildings. However, super-exotic materials and construction techniques are so expensive that only governments can afford to waste money on them.

They will be more than happy to, as long as people are willing to pay for them.

They do, just not too cost effective.
