About two months ago I adopted two cats (sisters), and after a couple of weeks one of them went missing. The remaining cat is very affectionate and spends most of her time around the house but she miaows almost all of the time. To start with, I put it down to the fact that she was probably grieving for her sister, but it isn't easing up and I can't think what to do to help her, (plus, it's getting a little bit annoying now). Any suggestions that might help would be greatly appreciated??

The cat is 18 months old. She has been spayed/neutered (whichever one it is), she can get in and out of the house as she pleases and there is always food and water available to her. I have 4 kids so she gets quite a lot of attention. Thanks for all your answers so far. I think I will take her to the vets just to make sure I'm not missing anything. x

What a shame you have the usual little bunch of cruel answers in and amongst all the good ones!
It sounds to me as though your cat is still missing her sister and is communicating that to you by the constant mieowing, I think it may be a distress call. She'll have been with her sister all her life so it must seem very strange indeed to her that she is gone.
Are you sure her sister won't come back? Sometimes cats can return after an incredible length of time, I read somewhere of one that came back after two years! It might be worth making enquiries in the neighbourhood. We have a cat that decided to live with someone else for six months and then came back to us.
You are doing exactly the right thing taking her to the vet to be checked over but I wonder if it might also help to consider adopting another cat to keep her company. (That is, if you are certain her sister won't return.)
It doesn't always work out - we have a cat that we have to keep separate from our other three because they torment her - but I feel it could be worth a try.
Finally, it may just be that she is a very vocal cat. We have one who mieows constantly, his name is Cliff and we call him Clifford Livingstone Seagull (after the cult 70s book) because he is white and black and his mieow sounds very like a seagull! He wasn't so vocal when he was younger, it has developed with age.
Good luck to your and your cat, I hope you get this sorted.

I have 2 cats, my eldest one is the exact same though she cries alot its mostly just to get outside, as soon as i open the door she runs out then cries a little later to get back in. My mum took one of my cats kittens and i have kept one too when my mum brings the kitten over to play with mine for a while once she goes back home the kitten runs about crying looking for her but she normally stops crying after a few hours. Maybe the cat is in some discomfort? maybe best to see a vet.

putting your cat in a bag will provide it greater rigidity to handle. what sort of thought IS THAT?!you could no longer positioned a cat in a bag for meowing. dogs bark, and that i do no longer see anybody shoving one in a healthful case?! provide him something to do, perchance he's bored. Catnip is a huge factor to furnish him, reason that's exciting and quiet, and you will no longer ought to hearken to him. verify whilst he's 'severe' on catnip, that he has a used teddy undergo which you do no longer choose or something affordable to tear up. My cats bypass loopy and scratch up my chairs and couches, so i purely provide them a teddy undergo for a replace. Get a high quality cat nip, the cheap stuff does not artwork and it wears off in like 2 minutes. severe high quality cat nip is around a similar value, approx $3 a saggy, the dimensions of my hand and that i'm 14 years previous. DONT use muzzles, they are uncomfortable and scratchy. How might you like it if somebody have been given annoyed with you in view which you have been chatting with plenty, so they positioned a bag over your face all day long? playstation ; in case you surely DO finally end up putting a muzzle on your kitty, you're a ill as$hollow.

Unknown; get it checked over by a vet, in case it's trying to communicate pain.
Failing this, I've found cats meow for attention. Give lots of fuss, and talk to your cat. A lot more productive that talking to some humans.

She is definitely missing her sister they are big socialise rs and there is not a lot you can do...imagine if this had happened to you it is the same thing...no matter what you may read about animals they are not as daft as the so called experts would have us believe...she will get over this in time try taking her mind off it by playing with her and treating her

pet it and keep it occupied, tease it with toy mice or something or buy it things that will keep it occupied and to get its mind off thinking about the other cat and it might stop grieving for the other and reduce its meowing lol!. if that doesnt work then try something else because i had a similar situation with my old cat.

heres an interesting fact. cats only meow to get human attention.. at no point do cats communicate with each other by meowing.. they do with growling, hissing etc.. but not meowing. they hear us being vocal with talking so they meow only to call or communicate with us
