I dont like the fast brew makers they seem to impart a strange taste. I currently use a crusinart without the grinder. I have a couple of grinders for whatever im making.
Taste will depend more on the coffee used and the water. If you use old coffee beans or bad tap water the coffee will be bad. if your doing the grocery store vaccum sealed in the can its ok coffee but not great coffee
The best coffee is coffee beans that have been fresh roasted. Beans will lose their flavor or in 2 to 4 weeks and need to be sealed against air and light. ground coffee is good for 3 to 5 days.

Its not so much the pot as it is what you use for your coffee

For a drip coffeemaker, I like the Cuisinart grind & brew as it takes beans to coffee and is good and easy.
For overall flavor I think nothing matches an old sunbeam electric percolator.
Some people like the French press, but I'm not crazy about the sludge it leaves behind
The smoothest coffee is made by using a cold water extractor such as the toddy or filtron systems
All coffee is dependent on a clean coffee maker, so make sure your brand is easily washable.

Good Luck!

Personally, all coffee makers are the same taste-wise.

It's the type of coffee you use that has the greatest impact on taste.

In terms of coffee makers, shop around and see what features they have and you'll get an idea of what features you'll want.

For example,
1. pot size (how many cups at a time do you want?)
2. Automatic Brewing
3. Unit size
4. Filter basket - swing out type or the slide out type
etc...

For me, I got an inexpensive Braun, on sale around $20. When I'm off to work, I fill my thermos and that's it.
