I really agree with all of you that has said, "yes, things do happen for a reason."
You all have shared some great personal experiences and reasons on why you believe this way. However, that has made it almost impossible to decide a best answer. That is why I pick........

No. Things just happen.

People try and make sense of, or justify things that happen to them because it makes them feel better about it.

The reality is that things happen and you choose what you make of it.

Yes, although the reason isn't always immediately apparent. As to why...well, that's a bit hard to explain. There are things that have happened in my life that I still can't connect to a reason, but that doesn't mean a reason doesn't exist. I guess it is just a matter of faith...I believe that all things work together to the good for those who love God and are the called according to His purpose....therefore, the events of my life (though not all predetermined) are all intertwined. Some day, perhaps, I will be able to look back over the tapestry that is my life, and see where some of the people and events of my life helped to shape it.

Yes I do. Once I was going to visit a friend who lives about
an hour from my house . Since it was Christmas Day ,a family that I haven't seen in years came for a visit . I had to call my friend to cancel my visit because the people stayed longer than I thought, A few hours later ,I heard the news saying that a tornado
had occurred and caused a lot of destruction. I t was in the area
where my Friend lives and her house was damaged by the
tornado. Now I believe that things happen for a reason.

You bet. I mean.... you almost have to think this way. Sometimes it is the only way to pull yourself out of that deep dark hole when something traumatic happens. It's so hard to understand when you experience a loss.... of any kind. Loss of a job... loss of a friend... loss of a loved one. But to think back and look at the circumstances that surrounded the loss and realize what you were supposed to learn from it all...... where there is your reason.

But don't get me wrong.... soooo many good things happen for a reason as well. I seriously do believe in Karma and that good will come to those that earned it. But I also believe that sometimes we meet people for certain reasons. People enter our lives and bring something that either enhances, teaches, enlightens, focuses, or redirects our lives.

I definitely believe things happen for a reason. I just can't wait to find out what they all are. That's the true fun. *big smile*

I'm a Christian, so if I judge things according to the standards of religion, I come to the conclusion that there is a reason in everything. The Bible says that God is watching everything and that He always knows what happens to us, that He is present in all moments of our lives. And if He is present all the time, it means that He can control things, and all events go through a filter of some sort. That's why I think that if certain things happen, they happen for a reason.

But God also gives us freedom, so maybe not all things are meant to happen, but they will lead to something eventually.

Yes most things. I got sent home 15 minutes early for the 1st and last time. Got my bus, which was every 15 minutes. Got to the other end walk 20 minutes got home. Next morning I found out a lady got killed in the same place and time where I would have walked if I didn't leave 15 minutes early. It was late at night, down a small road.
There has been many things happening for a reason for me.

I do believe things happen for a reason because everything happens for that reasoning. Now, the question of that reason being self-explanitory or not is one thing. Some things are understandable. Some things are not. Some people do foolish things just because they can do it.
It is a reason, though. Whether one understand that reasoning or not, things happen for a reason.

Yes and no. I believe that we can learn from everything that happens to us, and that gives them reasons. But I don't believe that a higher power assigns things to happen in our lives. That's micro managing on ridiculous level.

yes i do because i believe the Bible which says you will reap what you sow .
in other words for every action there is a reaction of some sort or what goes around comes around.
sometimes though we just have no idea why something happens but God knows. nothing happens by chance.
