Hi!Actually it's of greek origin.In greek Ιδιοπαθής θρομβοκυτοπενία.
If I translated it word by word it would be

Ιδιοπαθής:Sth tht happens to you because of your effort consious or unconcious.This word is used for a kind of pronouns where the same person acts and the same has the results of the action back.For a disease this term is used to show a disease of unknown reasoning or a non organic disease.

As for θρομβοκυτοπενία.This word is a combination of three others.
θρομβο-.... from θρόμβωση= thrombosis or from θρόμβος quite the same.A word which stands for clot.
κυτ-.... from κύτταρο=cell,cellule
πενία=lack,poverty
So as a greek I would understand tht it has to do with lack of cells.I checked out an encyclopaideia and got this:
thrombocytopenia=The deficiency of platelets in the blood.These are responsible for the coagulation of blood.
So idiopathis thromvokitopenia is a disease of unknown reasoning which has to do with the deficiency of platelets in blood which are responsible for its coagulation..I don't know if this disease can be called similar to Thalassaemia.

Could be idiopathic thrombocytopenia, an abnormally low count of thrombocytes (or, platelets), resulting in hemorrhages and easy bruising. Etiology (or cause) unknown, but may be guessed from a list of probable causes such as infections, immunologic, certain drugs, etc.
