Most do not require any type of special classes in order to be a police officer. I was hired without any special classes, I have a CJ background, but nothing as far as classes. In fact most agencies will tell you to take classes seperate from law enforcement, so that if you are unable to get into a department, you have something else to fall back on. Best thing to do is talk to the recruiter for the department that you want to get into and they will tell you if they want specific classes or not. Most are not even requesting college degree, but for the most part, unless federal, you just need an associates AT BEST, or simply just 60 college credits. Hope that helps! Good Luck!

Generally, depending on the state you are in, you will have to attend a police academy of some sort. In Texas, you get TCLEOSE certified.

Most municipalities are now requiring some college, usually around 60 semester hours, or prior military service as well. What you take in college usually doesn't matter. I have a degree in Political Science. All they cared about was that I had a degree. I know officers who have business degree, education, computer science, etc.

Obviously, a criminal justice major would work best with a career in laaw enforcement, but a degree in anything else will usually qualify you.

Most departments now days requires you to have some college or miltiary experience. No police department looks at what type of degree you have, they just want you to have a degree to better yourself. Usual most departments require anywhere from 30 to 60 credited hours. Their are no classes you need to take to become a police officer unless you take the police academy in hand, but before you can go to that you need to be hired to a department. Some departments have different programs you can participate in while going to college or just generally interested in the police field.
