measure the length of the room and then the width of the room. multiply length x width and that's your square footage. If its a weird shape, break the room down into rectangles and then measure each area, find the square footage for each area then add them together.

Measure each room from wall to wall. If the room is 10 ft. by 12 ft. you multiply 10 x 12 = 120, and that room has 120 square feet. Do all the rooms you are going to tile and add them up for your total square feet. If a certain wall is 10 ft. 4 " or any other not exact footage go up to next foot, so this wall would count as 11. I've heard that once you've figured out your total square feet, you are supposed to order 10% more, so you have extras. Just in case some break or if you mess up during cutting and so on. It's also nice to have some extra kept away in storage in case you have any accidents, like dropping something hard on one could crack it. Then you don't have to try and find a match for two years down the road, and after that tile is no longer made.

Simple in a square room, length X width. A 10' X 20' room would be 10 X 20 = 200 square feet.

James,
It's not hard. Measure the length and width of the room in feet. Say for example its length is 12 feet and width is 10 feet. Multiply 12 x 10 = 120 square feet. Be sure and subtract any major areas . . . not included in the "rectangle" and you've got your answer.

The square foot of a room is length X width example 10' x 12' room is 120 sq feet. for an easy general Idea of total sq feet. if you have a fairly sqare house walk down the side of your house counting your foot steps, times this by 3'. ( each step being approx. 3 feet) repeat this down the other side. multiply the two measurments that will give you a general Idea.

If you just need the square feet like to lay carpet, it is: length X width = square feet.
If you need cubic feet, like to know how much air is in the room. It's: length X width X height = square cubic feet
