They should be ok together. Of course, when the puppy gets older there will be some slight confrontation until the 2 work out who is the boss. One will dominate over the other. It shouldn't be a problem though. They will correct each other until one gives up.
Your older dog was just correcting the puppy. The pup was getting too wild and your dog didn't like that. One growl or a quick snap is how they correct each other. It scares the younger dog more than anything. It is exactly what a mom dog would do when the pups get too obnoxious. Usually you will see a sign of submission by the younger dog when this happens. Either the puppy laying down part way under the older dog, the puppy trying to lick the the chin of the older dog, or just running away. All is normal.

We have several American Bulldogs. We brought a puppy home at 4 months old and we already had a 5 year old Pit Bull. They did and still do get along just fine. They played and ran around the house.

Good Luck!

I recently brought an American Bulldog puppy into my family which already consisted of a 2 year old Cairn Terrier and a 14 year old American Mutt. There were some slight disagreements at first, especially between the younger two, and the puppy got nipped a couple of times until she learned her place in the ranks.

I was worried for a time, but now they are best buds. If fact, they won't even go into a kennel without the other (which is kind of funny considering there's a 50 lbs difference between the two..lol)

The older dog will tolerate the puppy, but as was stated previously...as an older dog, she finds the puppy a nuisance. She will frequently growl or bark at the puppy to warn her away. But as I stated, she is 14...not 4. She is also primarily an outside dog, which is what she prefers, so the contact between the two is minimal. I have found when the older dog is inside on colder nights, that if I let the puppy run off some energy before letting the older dog out of her kennel, that they co-exist peacefully.

With as young as your lab/rot mix is, they should settle in just fine. Labs usually keep a puppy-like attitude, so I'm sure he'll be happy to have a playmate. Take it slow and make sure the older dog has a "safe" place away from the pup until they become fast friends.

Older dogs usually do not do well with younger dogs. Think about it this way....it is almost like a baby always bothering you and messing up your room....it can get on your nerves. Some older dogs take the roll as the parent and want to teach them, some older dogs never really get use to the puppy until it matures. You have to understand though that unless you neuter your new puppy then you might have a dominance issue when the puppy comes into adult age. It really just depends on the older dog whether or not they will get along in older age. You can always try to promote good behavior amongst them. When you see the puppy bothering the older dog and you know that the older dog is about to get aggravated then correct the puppy by picking it up. When you see the puppy playing on his own or with someone that does not mind his crazyness then give him a treat. Also, if the older dog growls at the puppy or tries to bite the puppy correct the older dog, make them both understand that they muct respect eachother. It is not hard to teach them to get along. I have a 11 year old wheaten terrier and a 2 yr old pit bull. when we first got the pit bull puppy the older dog hated him and always tried to bite him when the pit bull puppy would try to play. But we corrected them both every time and now they respect eachothers spaces, they do not fight, but they dont play either. This is manly because my Wheaten is so old, Your Lab mix is alot younger so it may work better with your dogs, they may become the best of friends and play all the time and then you will have another problem because they will make your house so messy! If you do get a american bulldog pup you can always take him to play with the pitbull pup so that he has all that crazyness out of him when he is at home with the older dog.

It will be OK.

Be patient and plan on introducing the new member of the family slowly. For example, take the 4 yr old to a neutral place, and have him meet the pup, and do this as many times as you find it practical. Later, bring the pup into the home but keep the two separated for a while. Only when supervised, allow them to interact for short periods of time. Increase the time they interact and make sure they are not feed at the same spot. Over time, they will become buddies, the older one will teach the younger that he is boss and then they will become buddies. Be patient. Dogs are by nature social and they actually need others to be happiest.

YES get a puppy older dogs have ways of training puppy's for you. They love the company there may be one good but kickin by the older dog. That just to show the puppy who's boss and rottweilers are vocal anyhow. The older dog won't hurt the new dog but it will seem really bad to a puppy. He has to really show him there may be a lot more growling
he's just showing the new dog who's the boss. You must show the older dog a lot more attention to show him he's not being replaced.

I think you should ignore any post that refers to your dog as a pitt, they don't know what they're talking about! I doubt the dog meant to kill the pup however it's happened now so you have to learn from it. You need to separate male pups at an early age, it's not only once they reach sexual maturity that agression will become an issue, don't imagine ur staffy going crazy and ripping the pup to pieces, it was more likely much simpler than that. Just watch him and if you see more signs of this behaviour then act on it.

thats perfectly normal. once the older dog gets used to the pup, they will love each other. but for the first few weeks, dont leave them alone. and always give the older dog thasame amound of attention as it used to get, maybe even a little more. dont feed them at the same place, puppys sometimes think its like their mom were they can eat out of the same bowl, and get snaped at. but later it will be fine.
bulldogs are adorable! look out for its weight though,if too overwieght it can get bad sinus problems.
a lab is a very good natured dog,so i dont think youve got too many worries! enjoy the pup!

When you first get the puppy don't let the 2 dogs in the room at the same time without supervision.. they should eventually get used to eachother

Normal behavior - the puppy was probably being obnoxious and the older dog corrected him.
