when i start my windowxp computer, it boots up to the stage that the screen simply display microsoft windowsxp and nothing happens even after leaving it for a long time

There isn't no special thing you can do to make it advance. If it's stuck there, then something is going on either with the OS or a peripheral (did you recently install a new componenent, like a card, if so try removing it).

I'd at least see if you can boot into Safe Mode. On Win2000 you hit the F8 key as soon as you see the black screen that says Starting Windows. If you don't see that screen, then the instant it gets past the screen when you turn computer on (memory countdown, display hard drives etc), then just keep hitting the F8 key until you can get in the menu. If you can get into Safe Mode, then you might be able to recover it (by booting off the Windows CD and use recovery console).

But likely you may have to reinstall windows if you are stumpped.

Yea you can try re-installing using teh fix option.

Or just booting to safemode ( F8, just befor the logo comes on )
then check your pc from there for any problems.
