They've been sitting in there, almost completely unused, for a couple of years at least. Of course they turn on now, but how long will they last up there?

Buy a cheap battery tester at Radio shack, it will more than pay for itself.

Just bought a clockwork lantern, no batteries needed got 5 LED bulbs very bright, 30 seconds of cranking lasts 10 minutes, could be the future and will save you a fortune on batteries.

Sitting for years huh?

I'd be smart and bring some spares with me!! espically camping where temperture extreams, hot and cold will effect your battery performance, better safe then sorry!

turn it on If it is bright take extras. If it is dim buy new ones and also take extras.
