This is a natural program that you can try to cure your acid reflux http://acidreflux.toptips.org
Acid reflux disease, also known as gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), occurs due to the coexistence of several medical and lifestyle conditions. Physiological factors that trigger GERD include lower esophageal sphincter (LES) hypotonia (the gradual weakening of the LES), along with retrograde flow of stomach contents into the esophagus, and the level of sensitivity of the esophageal mucus to the reflux content.

I've had acid reflux for over 10 years, currently on Prilosec and it helps tremendously. I have been told that someone with Gerd has a slightly increased chance of developing esophageal cancer due to the abnormal cells in esophagus caused from the reflux. By all means see a Dr., there are tests to measure the amount of acid you are producing in esophagus.

I am not sure if people die from GERD but I know other conditions usually related to this can kill. A large number of obese people develop GERD and usually have other issues like diabetes, hypertension, heart issues, etc. I know if GERD is not treated, the acid can damage you esophagus and I don't think you want that! Good Luck!

Death from gastroesophageal reflux disease? Unusual but I CAN happen. But relax. As long as you see your doctor and get treatment you should do well. I have had GERD since May of 1992. Oh, and by the way, I am a gastroenterologist!!

Well for one thing, it predisposes over the long term to oesophageal cancer.
Also, higher risk of aspiration pneumonia and oesophageal hemorrhages (which can occasionally be massive).
