I have the same problem and yes, I believe it is due to stress and changing hormones - I am 45yo.

I have long and, I am told, beautiful, thick hair. However, not nearly as thick as two years ago and the amounts I find on my floor are continually disturbing.

When it first started, I too looked for other shampoos and conditioners. That effort didn't stop the loss and only proved to make my hair look damaged so I went back to my old favorite - Aussie.

Regardless of what product you choose, make sure you are:

Not overbrushing/overstyling your hair. Consider only handbrushing it when wet and tossing out brushes altogether in favor of picks.

Washing it everyday.

Rinsing it thoroughly. Finish with a cold rinse to tighten the hair folicals and add luster.

By all means, do everything possible to curb your stress - get some exercise and treat yourself to the acitivites that you love.

If you can't sleep/obsess over problems, consider talking to a doctor about adding medication to your daily regiment.

Do have your thryroid checked.

Good luck to you and your tresses.........

A really good shampoo and conditioner is NIOXIN, it actually thickens your hair, prevents your hair from falling out, and makes it nice and healthy. They have a whole line including hairsprays and even vitamins, its a great product. Also since you are stressing, try to fix the situation, relax, take nice long baths and keep your mind off of the problem. :)

Are you sure it is related to the current brand of shampoo you are using? My wife has had thyroid problems in her past and during those times, her hair fell out with greater frequency. Are you sure you are not encountering some medical condition that is causing it?
