We talk alot online. But I can never tell if he feels the same as I do. How can I tell?

Read between the lines. There's always ways to tell with the written word how someone feels. Exclamation points show that the person wants to show a level of emotion you can't see on their face, little smilies, the use of words, correct spelling. Stuff like that. If that doesn't work, ask him.

First of all, I hope you have more interaction with him in person than online, because you cannot tell whether he likes you or not just because of the fact that you chat with him.
So if you do talk to him in person, you can tell if he likes you if he hangs around you a lot, is interested in having conversations with you, and possibly jokes around with you.
