Why do people seek God but find so many different things?
This is a serious question.

Because the Adversary of Jesus and God have placed counterfeits in the way.

This below is from 1989:

A recent tabulation concluded that there are 10 main religions and some 10,000 sects. Of these, some 6,000 exist in Africa, 1,200 in the United States, and hundreds in other lands.

Many factors have contributed to the development of new religious groups. Some have said that the various religions all represent different ways of presenting religious truth. But a comparison of their teachings and practices with the Bible indicates, rather, that the diversity of religions is because people have become followers of men instead of listening to God. It is noteworthy that, to a large extent, teachings they hold in common, but that differ from the Bible, originated in ancient Babylon. (See pages 50, 51, under the heading “Babylon the Great.”)

Who is the instigator of such religious confusion? The Bible identifies Satan the Devil as “the god of this system of things.” (2 Cor. 4:4) It warns us that “the things which the nations sacrifice they sacrifice to demons, and not to God.” (1 Cor. 10:20) How vitally important, then, to make sure that we really are worshiping the true God, the Creator of heaven and earth, and that our worship is pleasing to him!

Most, because of this get disillusioned with religion as a whole or professed Christianity and don't search further becoming Agnostic or Athiest. This actually happened to me with the Methodist Church back in 1983 when they threatened to kick me out because of my lack of "contributions". Glad I didn't stop looking.

When you find God you kind of find yourself and others. You see the good and bad more clearly as well as the right and the wrong. Of course, everyone has a different perspective of God. You can resolve relationships, become a better person, heighten your self esteem, and many other things. I think it kind of has to do with your life.

The only truth we need is found in the Holy Bible.

The key is to never stop seeking. You seek anything, and you don't necessarily find it the first stop.

The mind wanders. Satan is also here to distract us from God. He doesn't want us to follow Jesus so he puts things in our way to take us away from God. Satan doesn't like and love God the way His people do so he is trying hard to get us to go his way - the evil one.

simply by fact thee are diverse paths --some shop on with one, some shop on with yet another. there's a Jain proverb: "the certainty has many aspects." people who in certainty look for do discover--and that they discover a similar actuality. The "variations" are purely in how the certainty supplies itself of their lives.

Because it's irrational. Because Jesus was just a guy, or made up, or a highly embellished figure. So it doesn't really matter what Jesus said; and it really doesn't matter what we think about a "god" since this is supernatural, superstitious, irrational thinking that can't be concluded logically.
