If it is dislocated, it usually will NOT return on its own. Get him to the vet WITHOUT DELAY! If the vet sees him soon enough he should be able to pop it back in. But once the muscles stiffen they will hold the joint where it is and it will become impossible to pop back in. In that case, the only option is surgery. He may actually need to have the ball sawn off the top of the bone to get it back into place.

Actually, I had a dog get hit by a car at 60mph, breaking her hip. The vet did absolutely nothing, stating that there's so much muscle in that area, it will hold everything together. I took the dog home, she limited her activity and is fine today. I'd think it will return to position on it's own, as soon as the dog tries to run.
Do you folks who are saying rush it to the vet know how much a vet visit is off hours, ie; a weekend.

because it type of sounds like you're able to undergo weight on your leg, i fairly doubt that's dislocated. If it were, you'd be in excruciating discomfort and unable to face on it in any respect, you would really have instability on your hip. in case you're in a variety of of discomfort, you should bypass to he health care professional. i does no longer advise attempting to relocate a dislocated hip on your human being. probability is that if it were dislocated and also you tried, you does no longer be able to do it besides simply by discomfort and muscle guarding.
