Yes if the dough is to make bread. There is no noticeable change in the taste.

Cookies don't taste very good if you substitute the butter with oil.

Oil is healthier than butter, and is a good substitute for a healtier meal. I actually prefer oil over butter becaus it is healtier.

If you are trying to go for a saltier tasting dough, like pretzel dough, you still can use oil, but you may want to add a little salt.

Of course. You put oil in perogy dough, and I even put it in my pizza dough.

I baked homemade garlic bread last night. I used butter. I have also used cooking oil. Any fat should do it. The only trick I had to learn was yeast/rising times.

Margarine is for sweet bread, oil is for non sweet bread. But in case of not having one, use the other.
