An old family tree shows my grandfather and his family as coming from Invenitz. I have always been told he was from Minsk, so perhaps it is near there. At any rate, he lived in a shtetl somewhere in the Pale of Settlement and am interested in finding out where, on a map, it would be. Thank you.

Argh. I spelled it wrong in the question! It is "Invenitz".

Hey AG,

Google Earth is a cool tool to use for this purpose. If you can get directions to this place, from Minsk, you can track over using this tool. It is very computer resourse intense, but a really cool way to get coordinates. If you already have it cool. If not, try not to load all the Google Toolbar etc. That will keep the overhead down some. And after you find what you want, you can get rid of the components you don't want (toolbar) using the START --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Software.
