Stretch marks are small patches of scar tissue. Here's what happens:

If skin is stretched faster than it can grow by itself, it causes small tears or damage to the fibrous middle layers of the skin, called the "dermis." If you look at a piece of worn leather, you can see that skin is made up partly of lots of tiny interlocking fibers. When areas of this structure become damaged, the skin attempts to repair and strengthen itself by growing extra tough "scar tissue." this shows up as stretch marks, which usually but not always, run at a right angle to the direction the skin was originally stretched.

In medical terms, stretch marks are often called "Striae." There is no cure for stretch marks, other than surgery, but they do tend to fade over time. Also, in the case of pregnancy for example, they will become much less visible once the skin has returned to it's normal shape. Surgery can be problematic, and a patient runs the risk of developing scars that are even more visible afterwards.

Stretch marks are marks that are caused in your skin due to excessive weight loss or weight gain in a short period of time. Stretch marks can begin to appear at the stage of puberty. Whenever the rate of growth in a person is higher than normal, then the tissue underlying the skin is stretched to a greater extent. This causes stretch marks on the body.

Stretch marks are caused from your skin expanding ,such as women who are pregnant ...it can also be caused as a youth grows at a big rate and the skin does not have enough time to expand according to the groweth rate...You can use cocoa butter on your stomach when you are pregnant and it helps the skin to have more elastictisity so to keep stretch marke to a minium..After the baby is born the stretch marks leave a lot of deep red scars, but in time they will lighten and return to the normal color, but you will still be able to see light tracks where they had been.

Stretch marks come about when a person's skin is stretched beyond it's capacity. Most times they occur when a woman has a baby or loses a lot of weight. The areas where they appear are around the stomach and/or breasts. To protect ones self from them is to apply a good skin creme with a good coco butter extract and Vitamin E

Basically they are the scars that are left after your skin has been stretched too quickly, whether through growth, pregnancy, or putting on bulk from general weight gain or body building.

The damage kind of rips through all the layers of skin, not just the surface layers. They can never be repaired - just deleted via surgery.

Many teenage boys get stretch marks on their buttocks, back and thighs when they go through a growing spurt. Men don't have as much collagen as women.

Some women can have several children without getting stretch marks at all - it depends on their age, genes, health, and how much collagen they naturally produce.
