Abbreviation for either Multiple Antibiotic Resistant Staph or Methicillyn Antibiotic Resistant Staph, it is a strain of Staphylococcus aureus that has become resistant to the antibiotic methicillin, and many other types of antibiotic. The bacteria was discovered in 1961 and is now resistant to the antibiotics methicillin, amoxicillin, penicillin, and oxacillin. While it doesn't resist all drug treatments, it's been quick to adapt to new ones. But MRSA's resistance to antibiotics can make it a serious, difficult-to-treat,problem. Staph itself is a very common – and often harmless -- infection. Only a small fraction of those with staph have the drug-resistant kind. MRSA most often appears as a skin infection, like a boil or abscess. It also might infect a surgical wound. In either case, the area would be: Swollen. Red. Painful. Pus-filled. MRSA infections are diagnosed by testing blood, urine or a sample of tissue from the infected area for the presence of MRSA bacteria. If MRSA bacteria are found, further tests will be done to see which antibiotics the bacteria do not have resistance to, and so which can be used to treat them. Treatment of MRSA depends on whether you are infected with the bacteria, or only colonised. If you have an MRSA infection you will be given antibiotics that are still effective (i.e. that the bacteria have not yet become resistant to). Most MRSA infections can be treated with the antibiotics vancomycin or linezolid, which are normally given through injection or intravenously. Most MRSA infections will require treatment in hospital and antibiotic treatment may need to continue for several weeks. If you are colonised with MRSA bacteria you do not need any treatment for the illness, but as you can infect yourself or others it is important to remove the bacteria. A special antibiotic cream will be applied to your skin or the inside of your nose to remove the bacteria. You may also need to wash your skin and hair with an antiseptic shampoo and lotion. In view of the facts you give, you would be advised to consult your doctor in order to arrange a test in order to exclude the possibility of MRSA, both in your own interest and that of your child. As stated above, MRSA is an infection that can be passed on.
Hope this helps

MRSA or methicilin resistant staph aureus is staphylococcus aureus (bacteria) that is resistant to almost all antibiotics. No way to know if you have MRSA unless you have the pus cultured in a laboratory and if staph aureus grows then have the lab test for sensitivity of the microorganism to antibiotics. Regarding the pustules, go see your doctor.

Why haven't you seen a doctor? I mean, come on! A week ago and they are puss filled and you haven't been seen yet?

I do think you have a bad infection. That's pretty obvious if they are filled with PUS. You are someones mother. You need to take care of this. What if it is staph? Want to give it to your baby?
