I set mine at about 8 feet.
But if you have bears you may wont to elevate it out of there reach.
How high depends on how big your bears are.
Had to help a buddy rebuild his in Arkansas after a bear got impatient.
His was set at 10 feet but, not now.
The height also helps distribute feed in a larger circumference.

Some of us Just Feed the Deer and don't hunt them. I don't HUNT DEER on my Property. I think the question was about how high to put a deer feeder and not about someone's false sense of Morality about what is the proper way to hunt. As far as I can see it is no different than hiding around a big acorn tree that has scattered acorns all over the ground.. GET A GRIP!

You want the feeder high enough off the ground so that you are able to fill it . I have a 55 gallon feeder and the bottom is only 3 feet off the ground so that I am still able to lift 50 lbs bags of corn to fill the feeder

The trouble with putting a hanging style feeder high up in the air is the weight. 40 pounds of corn is heavy to pull up 10 feet into the air. I usually set mine about 4 to 6 feet up. But I can see the logic of going higher if bears hit it.

Go as high as you can.

All of you are cheaters. Haven't you ever heard that you should feed wildlife. Anyone can hunt over a feeder. It takes a true woodsman to go to the deer.

it depends on where you hunt, now where i hunt there are no bears. im in texas so the only thing i have to worry about is raccoons and the occasional cow. 8-10 ft is a good height its the perfect height for you to back a truck up to it and fill it up. now what you really need to get is a varmit gaurd. coons can shimmy up that 3" pipe and they are smart enough to spin your spinner to get more corn to come out. so if you get a varmit gaurd it shouldnt be a problem. if you dont have to worry about bears then the only thing is maybe cows shakin it and theres really nothing you can do about that except shoot the cow lol. hope this helps.

The electric fan type should be placed a little higher than a deer standing on its hind legs trying to rattle more out can reach. 7' to 8' should do it.
