I bought mine from www.lookfantastic.com and they work really well. There was a bad batch produced with faulty switches but people were leaving them switched off but plugged in which caused them to blow up. (very reassuring!) According to GHD, all the faulty straighteners have been removed from retailers. There was a watchdog report on it a few months ago. I bought the wide plate ones which are better for thick hair, they were £90 but the thinner ones are £70-£80. I strongly advise you to order some GHD hair protector spray aswell. Although it costs £10, it is worth it.

Mine lasted 3 years then they did get all smoky. I recently bought new ones from eBay and touch wood they have been fine. I love my ghd's and wouldn't use anything else.

I bought a pair when i started hairdressing college and that was in summer 2003 but then at the end of last year i was using them and the wire let out smoke and smell i had good use of them as i used them on clients, friends and myself so i think they lasted quite well.
You can buy them in top salons or the internet i don't know but maybe you can get insurace for them as they are expensive.

Hairdressers can order them for you. But yes, they do break. I work in a post office and we send back about 15-20 pairs a week. Dont know why people keep buying them and definately dont know why the fault hasnt been rectified.

Try www.youbeauty.net. I buy all my skincare from there but noticed that they now do GHD's at reasonable prices with free first class delivery. Worth a look.

My sister's sister in law just bought some from the Tesco website. They aen't available from the stores only from the website. Apparantly an earlier model kept overheating - hence the returns but apparantly this has been sorted now.

they break no more than other electrical appliances. If you take care of them and are sure not to wrap the cord around the iron they will last along time. Youcan get them from 64.95 here http://www.greathairdirect.com/
