They can talk, but usually just repeat things they hear. You can train them to say certain phrases by repeating them, but that's not always successful. My oldest budgie says "Whata you doin', huh?" "You gonna bite me?" "I'm a good little baby birdie" "I'm a budgie" "You're a stinker" "Gimme a kiss..tch tch tch" :) We rescued a female budgie a year ago, and yesterday I noticed she is talking under her breath. I'm trying to work with her to see if she will speak more clearly. None of mine speak purposefully, although I know of some budgies that seem to know that certain words mean certain things. :)

Yes they can talk. Some never talk- but I have seen some that talk. My great grandfather had a budgie that swore in Polish (swear to God!) They are definitely capable of several words. They are not going to carry on a conversation with you like some of the bigger birds may (and even then it's questionable if what they say is really thoughtful or if they are just mimicking), but they can be trained to talk. By the way, every instance I have ever heard of where someones budgie talked- the owner spent a tremendous amount of time with it (talking to it of course), got it when it was just weaned, and kept it out of the cage and with them (with it's wings clipped) for most of the day. Check out a place that specializes in birds and get a tame, hand-fed baby. Good luck!

After my Grandad died, my Grandma had a budgie. She talked to it all the time, even when she had visitors but after a few months it really started to talk. It said allsorts of phrases and sentences, used to drive us mad. My Grandma died about a year later and we inherited the bird. When it talked we could still hear my Grandmas voice but after a few years it sounded like my Dad. You could guarantee that it would talk all the way through Home and Away and Neighbours, which I used to love and even if you were on the phone, you could hear it rabbitting in the background. It lived about 10 years and never stopped talking, the house seemed quiet when it had gone! My auntie has had 3 budgies nd none of those have talked so it really must depend on how much you talk to them.

yes all my budgies i have learned to talk and very clear they to . they repeat you .you have got to keep saying words all the time to them untill they start repeating it then start more words also like the 1 above said mine have had the same voices as the person who learned them to talk.like my dad .my mum .my little girl .and they copy so be careful what you say as they swear as well,if they hear it said. had 1 that used to copy my daughter when years ago had a cb radio the budgie used to call 19 a copy minor birds are very good at talking as well

They are able to be trained to mimic phrases. Be patient and repeat yourself and eventually they will catch on. Another good way to do this is to make a recording and put into repeat so they hear it over and over. This seems to work well, that way you dont have to talk till your blue in the face :) Good Luck!

No bird can speak FLUENTLY. African Greys are the best talkers but can only gain up to 50 or 60 words if he/she is a good talker.

Budgie's can talk but it is not common.

Yes they can. A single male Budgies can be taught to say many things, some speak very clearly, all mine have!! With time and patience, once a Budgie has learnt a few words,he will pick up virtually any thing he hears,so be warned!!! All my birds learnt their first word/s within thee weeks!!

Budgies never learn the actual meanings of words such as a truly intelegent parrot such as the African gray. They merely repeat words they hear often. My Budgie says her name and many of her nicknames. she imitates laughter and various sounds. So yes they can repeat speach.
