I am a diabetic, diagnosed about 2 years ago. Some people have very obvious symptoms, such as extreme thirst, waking in the night to use the bathroom, passing out, light-headedness, blurred vision . . . I did not. I did, however, notice that I was sick more often than was normal for me, that I was more prone to infections, that I did not heal as quickly as I had in the past, that I was experiencing mood swings.

What you have described could most certainly be symptoms of adult-onset diabetes. The blurred vision could indicate a serious problem. Diabetics should have a very specific eye test each year to check for damage due to seeping blood vessels in the eye. This condition ~ if left untreated, can lead to blindness.

Why take a chance? Get tested, know your glucose levels. For more information, check out the American Diabetes Association website.

These can be the symptoms of diabetes, but are also the symptoms of hypoglaucymia which is low blood sugar levels. If you have just eaten a meal, or eaten something high in sugar (or have drank something high in sugar) and have these symptoms, then these symptoms may be an increase in blood sugar levels which may be diabetes. If on the other hand, you haven't eaten, or ate lightly and feel these symptoms (often feelings of hunger will accompany the symptoms as well) then this could be hypo glaucymia (spelling is probably incorrect). This means there is a drop in blood sugar. With diabetes the body is not producing enough insulin, and in hypo-glaucymia, it is producing too much. Hypo-glaucymia often turns into diabetes. Also, a diabetic will experience both high and lows. It is important to see a doctor if you suspect this is happening. But, you also need to know that these symptoms may also be stemmed from another health problem as well. Also, when a diabetic is experience a high level of blood sugar, they often will feel thirsty. Please see a doctor. Best wishes!

These are all symptoms for type 1 & 2. (Haha, isn't the weight loss part nice, though?) Anyway, dealing with diabetes is difficult at first. You feel like the simplicity of life as you knew it was taken for reasons you don't understand. But shortly after you grieve, you learn to move on and accept it. Pretty soon it becomes a part of you and you don't know how to live life any other way. You will have many people to lean on, and that's the beautiful part of it. Though no one but other people with diabetes really understand how you feel. I don't think you're overreacting, these are definitely legitimate concerns. The only way to be certain is to have some blood work done while fasting - it will determine whether or not your pancreas is secreting insulin. Chest and ribs: Muscle aches are common for pre diagnosis - I used to get muscle cramps constantly. Hope I helped, and I really hope you start feeling better. <3
