Actually, I'm not sure. Brunette refers to brown hair, so maybe you could call someone with black hair "a very dark brunette"? OH, I just thought of another term. It's kind of poetic and maybe a bit old-fashioned, but it's also pretty -- "raven-haired". :)

Though people rarely use it, I think "raven-haired" is a nice term. There's also "jet-black," and sometimes black hair is described as being "ebony" in color..."brunette" is used mostly for brown-haired people, but it could work...

I would consider black haired people within the group of brunettes. Basically, any type of hair that isn't blonde is brunette to me :)

sure, raven haired, but brunette really loosely refers to all dark haired - that is non red, non blonde women.
